We conducted a content audit as a tool to review the current site so we could start thinking about:
What information we have
What updates we need
How we can reorganize
How to plan for content gathering and maintenance
Content Audit
We put a lot of hard work into reviewing our existing content. Here it is! MCC Content Audit (Google spreadsheet)
What We Learned
After completing the audit, here’s a quick look at our major opportunities and challenges when it comes to setting up a new site structure and pulling together content.
Opportunities:
Consolidate pages in many areas
Remove redundant or unnecessary information
Better organize content around a process or audience
Revisit page titles and terms to make sure they’re clear for first-time visitors
Re-prioritize information to make sure we're serving our audiences in the right order
Find a better way to better maintain events
Challenges:
Serving multiple audiences. This is hard! Especially when it comes to internal versus external resources...
Sustainability. We need to make sure a new site plan is reasonable and sustainable given the available resources. No content is better than inaccurate or outdated content.
How We'll Use the Audit
Don't forget about the content audit now that it's done! It's only just the beginning. The audit is a great tool to come back to when we're:
Planning the site structure (it provides the base for card sorting)
